Class 6H

Staff: Miss Hargreaves and Mrs Walker
Welcome to Class 6H!

We are a class of enthusiastic children who are enjoying life in Year 6. Our teacher is Miss Hargreaves and Mrs Walker also works in our class.

Year 6 is a very important year and we are working hard to achieve our potential. Every morning we do Guided Reading, English and Maths. In addition, we also do basic skills work in English and Maths. Miss Rylance and Mrs Irons are the other Year 6 teachers. We have a new curriculum in school, which will allow us to create links between lots of different subjects and we will begin to lead our own learning.

This year in Year 6 we will be learning about WW2 and what it was like to live in the 1940’s, evolution and the effect this has had on us and we will also be looking at rollercoasters and other fairground rides. We have lots of exciting activities and events planned across the school year to enhance these exciting topics, so please keep an eye on newsletters and social media for dates and times!

Every week we have PE on a Thursday so please remember to bring your kit. P.E this year is taught by Mr McMahon.

On Wednesday we have Music with Mr Simons where we will be learning the steel pans, African drums and samba music. We also have singing on a Friday.

Mr Beaumont will teaching P.S.H.C.E. to our class on a Wednesday afternoon.

Homework is given out on a Friday and needs to be returned to school by the following Wednesday.

How to help your child
Please read with your child on a regular basis and write a comment in their home-school reading diaries. Support them with their homework, especially with learning their spellings and times tables. It would be beneficial for your child to access websites which are aimed at supporting their learning in Year 6. These include Education City and BBC Bitesize. Reading books and researching the topics we will be covering would also be really useful.

We have an open door policy so if you ever need to speak to one of the teachers, please call in before or after school, telephone or go to the office to make an appointment.

We look forward to working with your children this and sharing our learning with you!
