VE Day

Since 1945 the end of World War Two in Europe has been marked by Victory in Europe Day, better known as VE Day. On 8th May 1945, Prime Minister Winston Churchill made an announcement on the radio at 3pm that the war in Europe had come to an end, following Germany’s surrender the day before. This year, the 8th May 2020 will mark 75 years since the first VE Day! Until the current Covid-19 crisis struck, there had been plans to stage celebratory events and street parties in many places. Sadly, this has all had to be cancelled but many have chosen to celebrate virtually! Holding video parties, decorating our homes or baking to celebrate whilst we are all in lockdown!

https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/ve-day-2020-date-about-lockdown-celebrations-a4429631.html

As 2020 marks the 75th Anniversary of VE Day with most of us inside our homes in lockdown, many are finding creative ways to celebrate online! With virtual street
parties, decorating homes, dressing up and baking! Will you be celebrating? If so, how?
Reflection
VE Day was a very special day in our history, the end of the war with Germany bringing with it, huge joy and celebration but also a chance for reflection. This year marks the 75th Anniversary – a time for us to look back and think about an important time in our history.
Challenges!
Challenge 1 –Write a poem imagining you are an evacuee and VE Day has just been announced! Can you perform it in front of your family?
Challenge 2 –Create an image or model of a soldier to place in your window for VE Day.

Some very clever teachers have got together and created some lessons for you to access.

There are Maths and English lessons every day and they are sequential so it is best to start at the beginning and work your way through.

English and Maths have their own sections but all other subjects are grouped in a section called Foundation – these are not linked to our learning in school but you might find them interesting. The link below will take you to the schedule but you can click on subject at the top right to allow to search for lessons in this way if you prefer.

Distance learning March 2020 prototype Year 5 (1)

Hello everyone in 5E,

Please keep safe during this very strange time. I am missing you all and look forward to seeing you all as soon as we can. I hope you are all finding interesting and fun ways to spend your time at home.

I have been making chocolate  cakes and banana muffins with my boys ( very yummy) , cleaning the house (not my favourite thing) and walking in the woods near my house once a day.

I will be updating this page each day with  some activities to do.  Scroll down this page to find the date for the  activities link. If you find anything tricky, please don’t worry. Have a go, if you can, at the bits you can do.

If you are talking to friends online, please remember to be kind. Here are some links to watch which may help with this.

Take care everyone.

Look after yourselves and hopefully see you soon, Mrs Cave and Mrs Eckles 😊

Staff: Mrs Eckles and Miss Clare
Welcome to our class webpage!
Here you will find details of what is happening each term and interesting examples of the children’s work. We are a fabulous class of 24 fantastic children. Mrs Eckles is our teacher and we are supported by Miss Clare.

Creative Curriculum
This year, we will be studying the Ancient Greeks, Vikings and Anglo-Saxons and Rivers.  Our Science topics are Materials, Reversible and Irreversible Changes,  Forces, Life Cycles and The Earth, Sun and Moon.

P.E.
We have P.E. on Mondays and Wednesdays . Please remember to bring the correct kit (white T shirt and dark or burgundy shorts). Please remember to bring suitable shoes for sports too!

Music
We play our plastic trombones (p-bones) on Wednesdays. We also sing with the rest of Year 5 and Year 6 each Friday afternoon.

P.S.H.C.E.
Mr Beaumont teaches P.S.H.C.E. on a Friday afternoon in 5E.

Homework
Homework is given out on a Friday and needs to be returned to school by the following Wednesday.

How to help your child
Please ensure that your child brings their reading diary into school every day and reads at least three times a week at home. It is also important that children complete their homework and spellings on time and support should be given to children as necessary. By the end of Y5, it is very important that children will know all of their times tables so regular practice of these would also be beneficial.   Reading non-fiction books to research the topics we will be covering would also be really useful.

We have an open door policy so if you ever need to speak to one of the teachers, please call in before or after school, telephone or go to the office to make an appointment.

We look forward to working with your children this and sharing our learning with you!
