Below is a link to some useful ideas and activities to further your child’s learning:
PSHCE Ed work can be found on the PSHCE Ed pages on the Learning section of the Thornhill JI School website.
Staff: Mrs Spencer, Mrs Young and Mrs Hussain.
Welcome to Class 2SY!
We have 26 children in our class who love learning. Our class teachers are Mrs Young (Monday to Wednesday) and Mrs Spencer (Thursday and Friday). The teaching assistant in our class is Mrs Hussain.
This year we have exciting learning about the United Kingdom, continents (Antarctica and Africa), winter animals, water, dinosaurs, how to stay healthy and trees and plants. We have lots of fun activities and events planned across the school year to enhance these exciting topics, so please keep an eye on newsletters and social media for dates and times!
We have P.E. on Tuesday and Friday. Please make sure your child has a named P.E. kit (ideally including pumps for lessons inside and trainers for lessons outside) and please remove earrings where possible. P.E this year is taught by Mr McMahon and Mrs Spencer.
We have singing with Mr. Simons on a Thursday afternoon and we are also learning to play the recorder in Music lessons on a Thursday morning.
We have PSHCE with Mr Beaumont on a Wednesday afternoon.
Homework is given out every Friday and needs to be returned on or before the following Wednesday.
Reading is so important! Hearing your child read and sharing books together will help them with their progress. Children take home two reading books – an Oxford Reading Book and a book that your child can choose from the same reading band. Please bring reading books every day.
How to help your child
Please support your child with their homework, with their reading and with learning their Spelling Bee words. Talking to your children about what they have been learning in class is also really useful!
By the end of Y2 it is expected that children will know their 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times table so regular practice of these would also be beneficial. Reading books and researching the topics we will be covering would also be really useful.
We have an open door policy so if you ever need to speak to one of the teachers, please call in before or after school, telephone or go to the office to make an appointment.
We look forward to working with your children this year and sharing our learning with you!
